Ann-Marie MacDonald and Des Walsh

We love authors who enjoy being on stage. One of the founding principles of our festival was that if we were going to ask people to come indoors in the middle of a perfect Bonne Bay summer, we’d make sure we entertained them.

There’s nothing like the personal experience of curling up by yourself with a great book. But to listen to a reading in the company of others in the magical space that is the Woody Point Heritage Theatre, to be moved to tears or to howl with laughter or to simply fall under the spell of a story beautifully written and beautifully told is something else entirely. If you’ve been in the building on those many special days and nights, you know what we mean.

And if you were there to hear Ann-Marie MacDonald, you know you were in the presence of one of the best.

We are so happy to welcome Ann-Marie back to Woody Point on the heels of her critically-acclaimed and bestselling novel, Fayne. She is also an actress and playwright, most recently adapting her own landmark novel Fall On Your Knees for the stage. As an added bonus, Ann-Marie will perform in this year’s Short Waves/Short Stories on Sunday morning.

📘 This is the 21st year of Writers at Woody Point and the 21st year of Des Walsh's tunes and words at Woody Point. He is our bard and our guiding spirit, and we can't wait for the Des Walsh Experience at Merchant Warehouse on Saturday Afternoon and Trad Sessions on Friday Night.

Des Walsh’s published writings include poetry and screenplays of the international hit miniseries’ The Boys of St. Vincent and Random Passage. His work has won many prestigious international awards including a Gemini Award and the Gold Medal at the Banff Television Festival, the UmbriaFiction Award in Italy, the Grand FIPA d’Or Cannes and the 1995 Peabody Award.

🎟 Tickets go sale on Saturday, May at 11 am ET, 12:30 pm NDT via Ticketpro
