The festival proper begins on August 19th with host Shelagh Rogers, and readings by Amanda Boyden, whose most recent novel, the critically acclaimed Babylon Rolling, is set in her hometown of New Orleans, and Lawrence Hill, author of the international bestseller The Book of Negroes. They will be joined by The Once, who have enjoyed spectacular success the past year re-interpreting traditional Newfoundland music, and putting their own stamp on songs by Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Amelia Curran.
