2024 Poster Artwork

We're thrilled to reveal the poster artwork for this year's festival!

Nico Paulo was one of our magical musicians at last year's Writers at Woody Point and we're excited to have her beautiful artwork as part of this year's festival.

Nico shared these thoughts about her inspiration for the poster:

This poster is a geometric fauvistic interpretation of some of my favourite details that surround the identity of Writers at Woody Point. A minimal approach that mirrors heritage and movement, land and sea. You can see the half the top central window of the Heritage Theatre with the crescent moon and the star cutout, symbols that go back in time and that relate to a place for gathering everyone. Then the Waves, Dory and the Oar, that represent the connection to fishing and coastal living as well as the way to get across the bay — for some the way to commute back and forth to the festival. The colours are based on observations during hikes around the area: green gardens grass, pitcher plant red, coral pink sunsets, many blues in the water in different weather conditions and lastly the tablelands burnt orange that gets darker with rain.

Nico Paulo is a Portuguese/Canadian singer-songwriter, visual artist and designer. She moved to Canada in 2014, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Paulo’s highly anticipated debut LP, released in spring 2023 is a melodically dynamic, heart-baring collection of lush, sophisticated folk-pop arrangements that was listed for the Polaris Music Prize of Canada, nominated for ECMA’s Folk Recording of the Year and winner of four titles with the MusicNL Awards — Singer-Songwriter of the year, Album of the year, Pop Artist of the year and Graphic Artist of the year.
