Announcing our Musicians for Writers at woody Point, 2025
It’s the kind of call we love to receive - a music agent from the far away West Coast, asking us if we were interested in booking Noah Guthrie for our festival. They didn’t have to wait long for us to answer. You may have seen him on America’s Got Talent, the Today Show, the Tonight Show, as a cast member of the television series Glee, or opening shows for Willie Nelson.
Noah will also be performing a stand-alone concert on Saturday night at our new second venue, the Shoal Brook United Church – with an opening set by one of our favourites, Sherman Downey. He joins a musical line-up that is overflowing with some of Newfoundland’s finest.
Duane Andrews and the Hot Club of Conception Bay combine virtuoso musicianship, infectious energy, and repertoire that mixes traditional music with the distinctive swing jazz made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Joining Duane are Erin Power, Isaac Andrews Power and Andrew Dale.
Kim Stockwood returns to Woody Point with a set that will feature her own songs and some beautiful covers (you can bet a Ron Hynes tune or two will be part of the mix.)
Matthew Byrne’s voice is a remarkable instrument, which you heard at our festival last year when he played with The Dardanelles. He will be featured in our Sunday night show, and will also be hosting our Traditional (and not so traditional…) music session on Friday night.
There’s more.
Matthew Hornell and Rasa (featuring our musician in residence, Sandy Morris, and Erin Best) will open for two of our on-stage interviews.
The Des Walsh Experience takes over the Merchant Warehouse on Saturday afternoon, mixing traditional Newfoundland music, poetry, and whatever else Des might have up his sleeve
And on Saturday night at the Legion, it’s the return of Hit Piece featuring the great Jodee Richardson and an all-star band.
