Coming to Writers at Woody Point - Louise Penny, Kate Beaton, and The Dardanelles
It’s time to begin unveiling the authors and musicians who will join us for this year's festival….
You won’t want to miss Louise Penny and Kate Beaton, along with musical guests The Dardanelles. We have been hoping to bring Louise Penny to Woody Point since the early days of our festival. She is one of the most beloved mystery writers on the planet, best known for creating a classic character of the genre, Chief Inspector Gamache.
Louise has been named to the Order of Canada and the Ordre Nationale du Quebec and has won nine Agatha and six Anthony awards – the Oscars of the mystery-writing world. Louise also co-wrote the political thriller "State of Terror" with Hillary Clinton. It became a #1 global best seller.
Her work has been translated into 31 languages. Her latest, “The Grey Wolf”, will be published in October. We can’t wait for her reading and to hear her in conversation with our own Shelagh Rogers.
📘 Kate Beaton hails from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her autobiographical comic "Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands" won CBC's Canada Reads in 2023, the first graphic work to win the annual battle of the books.
Ducks is in turn poignant, hilarious and horrifying as it tells the story of a young woman who leaves to work in the Alberta oil patch to pay off her student debt. The graphic format brings Kate’s story vividly to life. We look forward to hearing Kate present her work on stage and discussing it in an interview with Tom Power.
🎵 The Dardanelles, Newfoundland’s amazing power-trad group and Woody Point favourites, return to our stage this year. Tom Power, Rich Klaas, Matthew Byrne, Emilia Bartellas and Aaron Collis play Newfoundland traditional music that is alive, vibrant, and impossible to resist. If your feet aren’t moving when they perform, you might want to check your pulse….
The Dardanelles will entertain us on Thursday night and at Friday night's trad session.
