Serena Ryder, Mallory Johnson, Suzette Mayr, William Ping
We are so excited to begin unveiling the line-up for this summer's 20th edition of Writers at Woody Point!
Our festival leads off with Serena Ryder in concert, along with special guest, Newfoundland’s-own Mallory Johnson.
Serena has enjoyed a wildly successful, multiple Juno-winning career, from chart-topping hits like Stompa and What I Wouldn’t Do to duets with everyone from Melissa Etheridge to Gord Downie. We are thrilled to bring her powerful voice to the Heritage Theatre stage for the first time. Mallory is one of the rising stars in Canadian country music. And she has a direct connection to our very first Writers at Woody Point in 2004. See if you can guess what it is…
Also today we announce two of our authors for 2023: Suzette Mayr and William Ping.
Novelist and poet Suzette Mayr is the winner of the 2022 Giller Prize for her sensational novel The Sleeping Car Porter. In addition to her reading, Suzette will be interviewed on-stage by Lawrence Hill.
William Ping is an exciting new voice in Newfoundland literature. His debut novel Hollow Bamboo was a hot topic in the Canadian publishing world even before its release this past February.
